FinCoNet’s Programme of Work is undertaken through four Standing Committees. The current workstream of Standing Committee 4 (SC4) is titled From the fundamentals to the cutting edge: exploring the foundations of market conduct supervision and surveying the latest thinking and techniques. SC4’s primary output through this workstream is a webinar series, which aims to underscore the importance of market conduct supervision and explore key foundational methodologies and techniques. With a view to being relevant for a wide range of jurisdictions, the webinars aim to address, in particular, the needs of developing and emerging market conduct supervisory organizations.
Thematic Reviews can be an essential and effective tool in market conduct supervision. They can be very useful in identifying adverse practices and trends, and to facilitate issuing guidance or direction to industry. Compared with other tools such as examinations of individual entities, thematic reviews may offer benefits including providing a broader snapshot of the market on a particular issue and understanding compliance with supervisors’ expectations across institutions more quickly than with individual reviews.
